A new way to convert plastic into fuel
In this advanced age, experts are
unveiling unique inventions. In this regard, American experts have invented a
method of converting plastics into fuel, which is not
only useful for all types of plastics but can also work at very
low temperatures. Uses less energy.
According to scientists, this new method can easily convert even types of plastics into fuel that are
considered extremely difficult and almost impossible to recycle. During the
initial experiments, 85% of the plastic was converted into a mixture
of diesel, jet, and petrol.
Remember that nowadays plastic
is one of the major pollution problems, because it is easy to make but
extremely difficult to dispose of from the environment. So far, a long plastic
molecules (polymers) small and there are many ways to convert them into
harmless molecules, but most of them are either extremely slow or require a lot
of energy in case of extreme heat and pressure.
The new method is unique in that
it uses two catalysts, platinum and zeolite, which can handle any type of plastic
at very low temperatures (approximately 225 degrees Celsius) and high
pressures. This method is also much less expensive than other existing plastic
recovery methods.
Although experts at The University of Delaware have patented this method and intend to bring it to commercial scale in the next 5 to 10 years, there is currently a major flaw that needs to be addressed. Conversion of plastic into fuels requires the highest percentage of water.
For example, only after using 150
liters of water, 3.8 liters of gasoline/petrol is obtained under this method.
However, experts say they are working to fix the bug and hope they will be able
to fix it soon.
